If traveling back to the simpler days of cycling appeals to you, the Tommaso Tiempo road bike is sure to get you there. The Tiempo is your answer to riding smooth ribbons of road as the classic smaller diameter chromoly steel tubes provides added quality and comfort. Each year cyclists head to the Handmade Bicycle Show to view hundreds of steel bicycle creations. Steel has a rich history that goes all the way back to the late 1800’s when Chicago was the cycling capital of the United States! The Tommaso Tiempo is a complete package with an alloy triple crank, quick release hubs, alloy rims with CNC braking surfaces, Tommaso Sport saddle and Shimano 2300 and Sunrace components. Tommaso brings you solid performance on a classic steel frame for a price you won’t find anywhere else. Like they say at Tommaso: We want you to “Over Play” not “Over Pay!”
The shifters on the Tiempo are shaped for ease of execution and added comfort. In addition, because the shifter and brake lever on the Tiempo are integrated, you can easily access the controls for braking and shifting without removing your hands from the handlebars. The saddle on the Tiempo is the Tommaso Sport saddle. This saddle has additional padding on the pressure points to aid with ride comfort. The Tiempo’s alloy triple crank is ideal for cyclist of all levels. The 52/42/30 chainring combination crank is a welcome configuration for those of us that aren’t racing the Tour de France. It enables the user to both climb with less stress on the joints and cruise quickly along the flats and descents. The triple crank with 8-speed cassette offers 24 gear combinations.
The Tommaso Frame
The Tommaso Tiempo’s foundation is a 100% chromoly steel frame that shares the same design concepts found in the top of the line Tommaso bikes. Tommaso uses a compact geometry and detailed tubing lengths per frame size. This ensures that the rider gets the lightest, strongest, best performing and most comfortable fitting frame for the dollar. The compact design places the rider in the optimum position for steady handling and comfort. The Tiempo also has a chro-moly fork** to absorb the high-frequency buzz from the road. The ability of steel to minimize the vibration of a ride has been a popular topic among cyclists for years. The comfort and smooth handling of the Tiempo will be appreciated from your first pedal stroke.
**The New Tiempo has a black painted fork.
Tommaso, and other big names in cycling, such as Giant, Specialized, Trek, Masi, and Felt rely on compact geometry to best serve the needs of the customer. Compact geometry has a number of advantages for the rider. First of all, the phrase “compact geometry” is signifying that the top tube (the bar you stand over when not in motion) is sloped downward from the front to the rear of the bike. This enables the rider to get on and off the bike easily. Traditional frame geometry has a top tube that is parallel to the ground and harder to get a leg over. By sloping the top tube there is an additional benefit of the compact frame: With less material used in producing the frame, a lighter frame can be produced. Third, the more material sitting lower on the bike the better the bike will handle. By lowering the center of gravity the bike will descend, corner and sprint more effectively.
The Tommaso Fit
Sizing a compact bike is no different than other styles. By reviewing the size chart you will see the “Eff Top Tube” measurement, also known as the Effective Top Tube Measurement. This is what the top tube would measure if it were parallel to the ground. It is an imaginary line that runs from the center of the head tube to the center of the seat tube, if the seat tube was extended like a traditional frame. The size chart also lists suggested heights for the different frame sizes. This is far more helpful in sizing a bike than standing over the top tube and pulling up on the handlebars (which tells you very little about bike fit). The stem can also be easily flipped and adjusted for a lower back-friendly position or a more streamline position. The lower top tube keeps the center of gravity low and makes for an easy approach to getting on the bike. This Tommaso Tiempo was designed with the user’s needs and comfort as the #1 priority. Tommaso offers seven sizes to accommodate riders both large and small, making it easy to find a great fit for all of our customers.
The Tommaso Feel
Tommaso spends a lot of time choosing what makes a bike enjoyable to ride. Tommaso upgraded the saddle to the Tommaso Sport saddle for added comfort. The handlebar wrap was chosen for its soft feel and durability. The triple crank gearing is perfect for all cyclists wanting to ride the open road no matter if it goes up, down or remains flat. The lightweight Tommaso carbon frame and carbon fork will be great company for many, many miles.
