compact cranks
I see that the superleggera and other high end bikes have 53/39. Do you ever see this equipped with compact cranks? My knee is not so great anymore and the compact cranks are great for me. Any chance that future bikes will have this?
Thanks

I purchased the Sueprleggra last year and it was the all black model with Dura Ace componenets and the FSA Gossemer crankset. I want to change my crankset to a compact but I am not sure which would be easily interchangable. Could I put any FSA model in place of the current crankset? Would i be able to replace it with a SRAM Red cranskset. Please let me know what is possible. Thanks!

Considering the Dura Ace components the Dura Ace crankset would be the best and most compatible option. If you have a knowledgeable bike tech you can do the SRAM Red. While it may not be the most compatible it can be made to work very well by a good tech.

Again shipping?
Now I see another delay shipping out 10/3/2013. What is going on? First 12/12/12 then 2/5/13 then 3/10/13 and now 10/3/13.
You say below on a posted question 12/13/12 that they are on the water and heading over to you so don't fret...Did the boat capsize?
Why are you not informing your customers with real answers instead of playing games? You post a price for a bike then later offer the bike for a 10 percent discount yet increase the base price by 10 percent. Then later you post a 20 discount on all bikes and again you increase the price by 20 percent - BTW I have all this documented with screenshots. You guys need to be upfront with what is going on in China - while we will still be frustrated with the delays, having the honest answer would help in trusting you. Where is all the "LOVE"
Again shipping?
Lawrence,
I completely understand the confusion. I am having major issues with the system it keeps changing the ship date spontaneously. The CONFIRMED Ship date is 3/10/13. It is CONFIRMED.
My answer to the question below was just posted on Friday, and it states 3/10/13 as the ship date.
Thank you very much for your continued feedback. I am very excited to get your bicycle to you and find out what you think of it. I am very impressed with the ride, and I think you will be too. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Travis

Superleggera components?
The write-up states "Dura Ace components". Where are they? The only Dura Ace I can find on this bike is the rear derailleur (can't see the front one in the picsw). A crank (economical), Ultegra shifters (way cheaper than Dura Ace, but still good), Tektro brakes (cheap), rear cluster undetermined. And a "no name" frame. There are lots of name brand bikes with full Ultegra in this price range at this time of the season. And you tout that the price is cheaper b/c you don't pay for "the pro’s team bus and salary for 30+ riders and staff." BUT you state that the Tommaso frame is "race proven", and allude to the Tour de France as the standard. So who's doing the "race proving"? This is a SINCERE question. How do you justify this price with this componentry, and how do you justify the statements quoted above? I read lots of good things about this bike. How do I ride one bef ordering?
Superleggera components?
The bike has Dura-Ace rear derailleur as well as shifters and brake levers. You can click on the Specs tab to see the full list of components and their models. Tommaso bikes have been ridden in races for almost 30 years now including the Tour de France. Currently there are hundreds of people riding their Tommasos in races, you can see what races customers and the Tommaso employees are riding in by going to their Facebook, www.facebook.com/Tommasobikes. You cannot find another bike of this quality for this price, that is how we justify the price, it is the best around.

Gossamer cranks
I rode a test bike with ultegra 6700 model cranks and another with the Gossamer maufactured crank and the shifting was way smoother with the ultegra. Has anyone had any difficulty with the ****ing between the smaller and larger crank rings that come standard on the Tommaso Superleggra 2.0.
Gossamer cranks
I hope some other people respond with their experiences with the Gossamer cranks but I just wanted to let you know that we have sold hundreds of this bike with the Gossamer crank and I can't recall one person who has called or written in with an issue. If the bike is tuned properly the cranks shouldn't make much of a difference in the shifting.
Gossamer cranks
I was honestly expecting to replace the Gossamer Pro cranks on this bike with an Ultegra 6750G crankset because I'd heard less than stellar things about the Gossamer cranks, too. But I am not going to bother replacing them until they break down, I've had absolutely no problems shifting the front rings, they're smooth and stiff and feel lighter than they look on paper. Absolutely no reason to worry about them or replace them until they die!

Bottom bracket noise
I just got my bike. Nice. It really was set up to go. I just did a 20 mile ride. Im hearing this click-clack noise coming from the bottom bracket, i believe the right hand side. This occurs when I have torque applied, which is about 90% of the time. Is this a break-in noise. Sounds like some flexing or something. Not sure what is causing it. Suggestions? Or is it break-in?

Depending on how rough, if paved yes, if no look @ maybe a cyclocross bike. Still a smooth ride but better tires for the rough stuff.

John, T.J. offered some spot on advice. If your riding more on dirt and loose gravel check out a cyclocross bike. Tommaso offers a great carbon cross bike. The link is below. If this type of terrain is not mostly what you will be riding on than the Superleggera will work great for you. Let us know if you have any other questions we would LOVE to help.

Crit and Race ready?
Is the Superleggera Pro great for local crits, racing as well as a long mountainous ride? I am looking for responsiveness when I power out of the saddle in the crit but also have a bad lower back and want some comfort on my longer training rides. With the 54/39 crank, will I get more climbing gears then the 50/34 on the Velo? I know that is a stupid question, but can't get my head around it right now. Thank you!
Crit and Race ready?
The Superleggera is set up as a great all around bike with a standard 53/39t crankset and a 12-25t rear cassette. With a standard crankset you will have a higher over all gear ratio which can make it a bit harder climbing as you will have to push a bigger gear. If you're newer to cycling or haven't been riding 100+ miles per week you may want to go for the lower gears of a compact 50/34t crankset on the Tommaso Volo. Both bikes are awesome full carbon fiber bikes that are lightweight and inexpensive!

Question about chipping fork dropouts
Just received the Superleggera Pro today and I'm stoked to get out and ride it.
One thing I noticed is that there's some chipping and delamination in the fork dropouts, presumably from when it was mounted during shipping. I noticed that the rear dropouts appear to be metal, which makes sense, but it's hard to tell what material the dropouts in the fork are constructed from. Is this just paint peeling off or is it something structural that I should be concerned about?
Also, if it's just a coating, is there anything I should do to ensure it doesn't delaminate further beyond the dropout?

Carbon fork/frame drop outs
I recently received my new Superleggera and had a question about the QR skewers and drop outs. The genius build has what appears to be metal washers in the lawyer tabs. Are these just for shipping and supposed to be removed or are they needed to help protect the fork/frame from damage caused by the force of the skewers? Seems to me that QR would imply the wheels could be removed without disassembling the skewer but thought I'd check here.
Carbon fork/frame drop outs
The washers are just for shipping and should not be used on the bike. Feel free to give us a ring at 877-731-6051 so we can walk you through the assembly.

..."The rest of the bike..." except for the crank, and bottom bracket, brake calipers, and seatpost and chain, and .... :) But the drive train is Dura Ace, which is significant.

Superleggra with Duraace
I am interested in the weight of a 2011 Supereleggra with dura ace( or anysize so IO have something to compare). If you have weighed you bike, what was installed on it at the weighing, Water bottle cage? Pedals? Computer? Thanks!
Superleggra with Duraace
The Superleggera 1.0 with the Mavic Krysium Equipe wheelset drops about a 1/4 pound off the older version Superleggera Pro. It's hard to say what a compete Superleggera 1.0 would weigh with cages, pedals and a computer. I'm guessing it would be somewhere in the 17 pound range??
Superleggra with Duraace
I just weighed my new SuperLeggera 51cm, with Dura Ace 7900 pedals and a single aluminum bottle cage installed: 18.1 lbs. The pedals weigh about 8 ounces, so the claimed complete bike weight of 17.4 lbs without pedals or the cage is extremely accurate. I'm very happy with it!

Returns
I really want to demo and buy this bike, I am just hesitant because i have never rode the bike before! I was wondering if I bought it and didn't like the feel, could i return it for a full refund. Also is there a way I could just demo the bike?
Returns
You can most definitely buy this bike and ride it around the block to make sure it works for you. I will post our return policy below however I want to make it clear that with bikes we understand that you will need to take it for a spin to make sure it fits and works as expected (especially bikes purchased with the pro-build, you need to make sure it was tuned and everything). We do not offer a demo program but do encourage you to consult with other customers here or at the Tommaso Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Tommasobikes the Tommaso Nation always seems eager to help new people.
Your satisfaction is our success. Giantnerd® offers a solid 365 day return policy on every item we sell. All you have to do is return it within 365 days and we'll refund your order down to the last penny. All we ask is that you return it in the same condition it arrived, with the original packaging intact. You pay return shipping; but honestly, with a year to get it back to us, there's no reason to foot the bill for that fancy overnight stuff. As long as you aren't bent on making a fort out of your new bike's box, you're covered.

Are there different format of shoes between road and mtb?
Hiya,
I'm making the transition from purely off-road riding to road cycling, so I'm fairly new. In the shops I've seen road bikes with dirt/road tires on them. I assume it's for all around urban riding, but if someone could clarify for me I'd very much appreciate it. That said, would this in any way be a suitable bike to ride in such a way?
Thanks!
Are there different format of shoes between road and mtb?
If the bikes you're seeing have drop handlebars (as opposed to flat bars) and have knobby tires, then they are cyclocross bikes. You can ride a cyclocross bike as a road bike, but you might want to get some road-specific tires to reduce noise and rolling resistance.
Cyclocross bikes are great for commuting, especially in the winter.
You also asked about shoes. There are "road" and "mountain" shoes and pedals. You can easily ride mountain pedals on a road bike. I wouldn't ride road pedals on a mountain bike as dirt and mud don't play nice with road cleats.
Are there different format of shoes between road and mtb?
The bikes that you see with slightly wider, knobby tires are cyclocross bikes. Cyclocross bikes vary from road bikes in that they have lower gearing, wider tires up to 35mm, cantilever brakes, and slightly higher Bottom Bracket. Cross bikes are great if you plan on riding a mix of road and smooth trails. If you are planning on just riding roads go with a road bike like the Superleggera as it will be faster on the pavement. Here's a link to our cross bikes, the Bestia and Diavolo.

Are there different format of shoes between road and mtb?
I ride MTB shoes on my Road Bike all the time. I know the Road shoes are supossed to e more streamlined but I hate the duck walk. My first ride out on my latest bike I got a flat 4 miles out (no tire kit) and had to walk back carrying the bike. I couldn't have done it in Road Bike shoes.

Tommaso Bikes has a strong Italian heritage and are designed in Boulder, Colorado, the Mecca of US cycling. Like most bike brands from across the world, Tommaso's are manufactured overseas in Asia, Taiwan and China to be exact. They are made in the same factories as big bike brands that you are familiar with. The big difference between a Tommaso and larger bike brands is that Tommaso has a business model that allows for direct to consumer pricing and doesn’t expect their customers to pay for pro team tour buses or contracts. Larger brands have huge marketing and sponsorship contracts to pay and sell their bikes to shops who then inflate the price for a profit. You can't beat the quality and overall value of a Tommaso Bicycle. Tommaso has a strong fan page following on Facebook with thousands of satisfied and active fans http://www.facebook.com/Tommasobikes and are covered by a lifetime warranty http://www.tommasobikes.com/warranty_full.html.
The Superleggera Pro and 1.0 feature a light, sturdy and comfortable to ride 12k carbon frame and fork. This frame is will last for thousands of miles on the road.

11/28 Cassette
You could easily switch up the cassette on the Superleggera with any Shimano or Sram 10 speed cassette. Both the standard 53/39T crankset and the 50/34T crankset are compatible with any 10 speed cassette from Shimano or Sram.

WEIGHT
HOW MUCH DOES THESE BIKES WEIGH WITH ALL THE VARIOUS OPTIONS?
WEIGHT
Webwolf, You can click on the specs tab for all the information. Weight: 17.7 lbs (54cm frame without pedals/reflectors)
WEIGHT
The weight will all depend on what you want to do as far as pedals. However there are other ways to save weight on this bike. For example many parts are still aluminum on this bike therefore changing these out with carbon fiber parts will save a decent amount of weight. This will also increase the price so one must decide if price or weight is more important.

SL Pro
Is this available with compact chainring or a triple...I need that granny gear on very steep hills
SL Pro
The Superleggera Pro is only available with a standard FSA Gossamer 53/39T crankset. Down the road you could always upgrade the crankset to a feathery light Stronglight Helion Compact 50/34T that weighs in at only 640 grams.
http://www.giantnerd.com/stronglight-helion-compact-crankset-50-x-34.html
SL Pro
You could also swap out the cassette for a Shimano 11/28. That would give you a nice, easy gear too. (Just be sure if you swap it out yourself with a chain whip and cassette lockring tool, that the lockring tool, (like Park Tools fr-5), is for a hyperglide cassette lockring.)
SL Pro
you can always swap out
