Cleats?
Do these pedals come with the SPD Cleat or do I need to buy the cleats separate?

Clip Shoes
I purchased these pedals about 6 months ago for my road bike. I just started riding about 7 months ago. I finally feel comfortable in my riding skills now that I want to get clip shoes. Can any pair of clip shoes be used with these pedals or is there I special type that I need to buy through giantnerd?
Clip Shoes
Make sure the shoe is 2-bolt compatible. This will be listed in the description of the shoe or under the specs tab
Clip Shoes
Many road shoes are not 2 bolt compatible, but mountain bike shoes should be.

Mountain Bike Pedals for Road Bike?
I am brand new to cycling, just bought the Mondial. I was wondering if you can put mountain bike pedals on road bikes? I like the mountain bike shoes better, and like that this particular pedal has both platform and clipless. Thanks!
Mountain Bike Pedals for Road Bike?
You can definitely run a spd compatible mountain bike pedal like the pd-m324 on a road bike. A spd compatible pedal/shoe/cleat system is much easier to walk in as the cleats are recessed in the sole of the shoes.

Pedal question.
REGARDING PEDALS: I am interested in purchasing mountain bike SPD pedals for my road bike that I will be purchasing. I am either going to get the Shimano PD-M520s ( http://www.giantnerd.com/shimano-pd-m520-spd-mountain-bike-pedals.html ) or the Shimano PD-M324s ( http://www.giantnerd.com/shimano-pd-m324-spd-dual-platform-mountain.html ). Now, I am a 14 year old who is just getting into cycling, and do not plan to ride with specialized bike shoes all the time. Although, I will ride clipped-in a lot. What pedal do you think will suit my needs best? Thanks.
Pedal question.
Hi Josh,
You should go with these pedals because they give you the option to ride with either cycling shoes or street shoes.

Nerd Dollar purchase
I have a Nerd Dollar amount in my account and I would like to purchase this pedal using my accumulated dollars, how do I do it?
Nerd Dollar purchase
In the checkout right above the typical payment methods you will find a box which says “You have $XX.XX available nerd dollars you can apply to this order” When the checkbox is clicked with a checkmark your Nerd Dollars will be applied towards your purchase. The amount you have that is being applied can be seen in the sentence as well as in the total at the bottom.
Nerd Dollars must be used in full unless your Nerd Dollars cover the entire purchase. To put this another way: if you choose to apply your Nerd Dollars towards a purchase you must use all of them; if you have more Nerd Dollars than the total of the purchase you will have some left over to apply to your next purchase; if you do not have enough to cover the whole order you will have to pay the rest with another payment method.
Let us know if we can help in any way.

PIcked these up
These arrived over the weekend and I am very pleased thus far. The clipless is easy to snap into and out of and worked well on the trail, while the flatbed has come in handy on a few quick trips down the road.

Oops, wrong section, my bad.

Cleats?
Does this pedal come with cleats that could attach to any cleat accepting riding shoe? I have an pair of specialized riding shoes I picked up in the past but have no idea what the SPD integrate shoe and pedal system is all about.
In other words are the cleats and pedals proprietary for use with only specialized shoes?
Cleats?
Of course I meant Shimano in the last sentence (I wish you could edit).
Cleats?
Found out from another site that the cleats work with the standard two bolt system found in most riding shoes.
Cleats?
Basically any sort of riding shoe has the same set up. What can differ is the cleat that you attach to the two-bolt set up. Cleats are pedal/brand specific. And as you figured out, you can mount any cleat on any shoe.
Cleats?
It was a learning opportunity for me, I was only familiar with road clipless cleats which use a three bolt setup (and I have to say are quite a bit more complicated to attach).

Are these good pedals for a beginner into the mt bike scene?
Beginner
These pedals a great for beginner to intermediate riders. The mix of a platform pedal and a clipless pedals allows you to grow into a better rider with enhanced equipment such as clipless shoes without having to change your pedals. They are not the lightest pedals around so when you do become more serious in the sport a pedal upgrade is a good idea although these pedals will be sufficient for a few years until you really get some experience under your belt.
Beginner
They would be good for a beginner if you're immediately starting off with bike shoes and spd clipless cleats, which would NOT be good for a beginner for a mountain bike scene. I recommend starting with flats, possibly using these pedals as a a transition into riding clipless after a year or two of flats, and then going full clipless. These pedals get confusing as sometimes its really tough to find the side you're looking for, whether you want to clip in or just want a flat side. Just the issue of trying to locate the correct side of the pedal could screw you up.
Beginner
I have been riding these pedals for over 10 years, they are bomb proof. I use the the clipless side when climbing, when the trail gets realy rough or the switchbacks get really tight I flip them over to use the platform. It takes getting use to though. I believe its perfect for someone starting out.
