Does this (zip-in-compatibility) mean the carmel jacket will zip-in seamlessly (pun intended - the zipper is a substantial seam) with the North Face Triclimate jackets of the same size?
I gave my wife a Triclimate Boundary jacket for Christmas (Bantam Blue). It was on sale for $199, marked down from $250, and is a great coat. However: 1) the inner layer of fleece if not heavy enough when the weather hits the mid-20s and below, especially if it's windy. The carmel jack would appear to provide maximum warmth if it was used as an occasional replacement for the fleece that came with the jacket, and;
2) My 14 year-old daughtr unripped, that is, removed, the inner layer and has worn it to school *every day*. (What is it with kids to wear the same thing *every* day? She has many nice alternatives.) I believe it may be the North Face Osita fleece.
My questions:
1. Is the carmel down jacket the right joice for: A. compatibility, b) maximum warmth
2. What are some other North Face underlayers that are compatible with this Triclimate jacket?
3. Is there a way to modify your child's behavior i haven't thought of we haven't thought of. We don't believe in corporal punishment, but we can't her to do anything, from her homework to dressing appropriately to dropping a loser "boyfriend." Would anyone be interested in a trade, straight up?

Hey John -
To answer your questions:
1. The Carmel would not be my first choice as a zip-in liner to this jacket. It would work, but as you pointed out the flap in front of the center-front zipper is pretty beefy. Moreover, the Carmel is SO much puffier than the existing Boundary liner that it would end up being pretty uncomfortable. (If you've already tried the Carmel and it works, then I stand corrected.)
2. The direct replacement for the original liner is, as you said, the Osito jacket. However, if you're looking for a warmer layer I would probably suggest the Women's Redpoint Jacket - it's a great standalone piece (wind/water resistant) with a very warm, lightweight Primaloft fill. Check out my answer to your question regarding the Denali - it would be an upgrade in terms of warmth but there's a chance it could be a bit bulky under the Boundary shell.
