This can definitely be used for skiing. I have skied with this helmet for four seasons! You can barely make out the helmet in my picture below as I was choking on deep powder!

The Giro MX G10, although an awesome helmet, does not come with speakers in the ear-pads. However, the MX G10 is audio compatible. I would suggest looking into Skullcandy for after market audio kits. We do have three great helmets from Smith that come with audio at purchase.
