The Onguard Akita lock is a great lock and may be even more fearsome to a bike thief than a one hundred pound plus, tooth bearing, Akita dog. It's a great way to deter theft. Unfortuantely, for every great bike lock there's a great bike thief. Enjoy your new ride, lock it up and don't leave it anywhere unattended for too long!

A friend of mine uses a combo of a new U-bar style lock and a hefty chain/cable lock (like the Akita) to deter would be thieves a little more.

Just finding your site. Nice work! Mubashar, you ask the right question about the best locks for New York. Always go for more security rather than less. The New York Fahgettaboudit is the perfect choice for you (full transparency, I'm with Kryptonite and that lock is my little baby!) but whatever brand you choose, go for U-Lock or heavy duty chain for that sort of enivironment. And, yes, yes, always lock it up - even inside. Thieves will be watching for the one time you don't.

The best thing to do is to have a combo lock- ie use a U-Lock AND a cable lock. Do not hook the cable lock to the U-Lock though. Sure its 2 separate locks you have to carry around, but its also 2 separate tools a bike thief has to dig out to break your locks. Thieves want something quick and easy- place your lock in a way that will screw up the frame if they try to break it- they cant sell stolen goods if they are messed up!!!
