Forget taking your big ol' Coleman bbq into the backcountry. This one is super light, and gives you good flame. Yep it's tough to get just the perfect flame, but it will warm things up fast and sometimes that's all you need!

I have a 14 inch wok and we took that and one of these stoves camping and I was able to make a whole lot of stir-fry in a great amount of time.

This is one of the most versatile stoves on the market. While employed at REI we were able to test these with varieties of fuel and this will burn almost anything. Great construction and can take a beating on long trecks. The Whisperlite is really the staple of the MSR stove line-up and for good reason. The shakerjet is truly amazing and definitely no a gimmick, it removes the need to clean the jet using a needle, all you have to do is give the stove a few taps and the carbon build up sizzles off.

The only primary complaint that I have heard over the years is that the flame is very difficult to control and people often found that it was either burning full flame or going out. Although there is a little more flame adjustment possible with experience if you plan to do a lot of gourmet cooking in the backcountry you may look into the Dragonfly by MSR.
