Nerd Bio

I love the outdoors, animals, and all types of camping, fishing, kayaking, cycling, and hiking. I am an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver Scouter, a paratrooper, a jumpmaster, and a retired infantryman /military policeman. I still have my 1972 Schwinn Super LeTour (Chicago frame) and I ride it when I'm not loafing on my Harley Softtail Heritage Classic.

Bell Sequence Matte Black Mountain Bike Helmet

First, I hate helmets in general, but believe they are necessary. Given that, this helmet is very well ventilated, feathery light, and wonderfully adjustable. No guessing at velcro pads or sticky foam. The "Tag Fit System" adjusts quickly, comfortably, and securely. Really, quite innovative. You don't find yourself fussing around to establish a decent fit. The "Cam-Lock Levers" make certain that your adjustments stay where you place them. The helmet is well built and considering it is a helmet, looks pretty decent. The matte black is a great finish and if you are so-inclined, it won't detract from your other cycling "fashions". I could do without the little manufacturer's labels, but that is just me and has nothing to do with the quality of this piece of safety equipment. It is well worth the price and I would recommend it to anyone considering a helmet purchase. 5 Stars.

BAMF Kimura 29er Mountain Bike

First, let me say that the value of this bike is at least twice what I paid for it. The Pro Build is the way to go. Right out of the box, it was a cinch to make it ride worthy. I am impressed with the high quality of the various components and amazed that BAMF could keep the price so low. Just the components alone could easily retail for 1500-2K. The finish is, as I like it, simple, not ostentatious or pretensious, just totally uncluttered (and really easy to fix any crash dings). The crank, sprockets, tires, rims, seat, shocks and derailleurs are all top notch and the Avid Juicy Hydraulics have awesome stopping power. My road bike is an original '72 Schwinn Super Le Tour, built in Chicago, and it is also black. I hope to be riding this new Kimura BAMF just as long. I give my new ride a 5+ and think any rider over 6' will love it.

PD-M324 SPD Dual Platform

I am extremely pleased with the excellent quality of these pedals (PD-324 SPD). Purchased these for my new BAMF Kimura 29er. A perfect match for my Sidi Giau cycling shoes. The pedals come with a very detailed set of instructions and the tension adjustments, while extremely easy to complete stay where you set them. Easy to engage/disengage, yet seem to be ready for the most severe abuse. When looking at other types of pedals, none with this superior level of quality were also dual platform. That greatly facilitated my choice. No need to change footwear if you are making a quick trip to the store or library. I strongly recommend these pedas for your current mtn bike or your next new ride and they might even be a good choice for your commuter. (P.S. A little Lok-Tite would be smart when attaching them.) Definitely a 5 Star.
