Pure Awesome
After a bit of a wait I got my Superleggera a few days ago; I've been on a couple of rides and put on about 20 miles so far.
I come from a mountain biking background so I;m not the smartest guy when it comes to road bikes. That said, I do know a thing or two about how a bike should feel under my rear end.
So how does it feel under the rear end? Really dang good.
Shipping: Shipping took a while, but there were some uncontrollable circumstances so I wasn't too worried about it. The box came in great condition. The only issue I found in shipping was that the front axle assembly was loose in the box and 'could' have done damage to the bike. So far as I can tell it didn't, so all is forgiven. Hey NerdHerd, make sure you tape those things down. There was a handy dandy set of allen wrenches taped to the box. (Nice touch) When I unloaded everything out of the box I was floored at how well it was all put together. Super clean, very well fit and just gorgeous.
The Bike: You really have to see this thing to believe it. The quality is astounding. I shopped for a long time at many bike shops and this thing is easily more impressive than all but the most expensive models. It looks better than many off the bikes that cost $6,000 plus. Once you're on the bike you realize that the looks are only a small part of the joy. It rides super smooth, quiet, and responds to every pedal and shift exactly the way you'd expect. The Dura Ace components are really responsive. I'm slightly over six feet tall and I was able to find a comfortable riding position within a few minutes.
I was super nervous about buying a bike online and was warned half a million times by bike shop salesmen that it was a foolhardy way to get a bike. Boy were they wrong! Do not hesitate; whether you consider the amazing price or just the amazing bike this thing is one hell of a deal. If I'd paid much more for the bike I would have still considered it a great deal.
I'm starting to sound a bit too over hyped. There were a few drawbacks. It took a little longer than I wanted and that was disappointing. When I contacted GiantNerd they told the truth and let me know that some of the parts were not correct and they had to wait for replacements. They hooked me up with some faster shipping and a few nerd dollars to keep me from going crazy. The "velo-skin" reusable box is really just a bike friendly sized box. Not something to get excited about. I will be keeping it just in case I end up touring with the bike. The stem, handlebars, and seat post seem of lower quality than the rest of the bike. I don't really mind but ti does make kind of a weird mix when the quality is so high on everything else.
By the way, everything you've read about the comfort on that Tommaso seat is true. Nice on the rear end.
