The build quality is good, and they stay snug on the bike. Don't expect the headlight to illuminate the path ahead, but oncoming traffic should be able to spot you just fine. Highly recommend these if you are looking for basic head/tail lights for night riding.

Anyone know how far the front light is able to shine out to?

The actual distance a light will shine out to is dependent on the conditions around it. Assuming that everything is clear a 3 LED light can get a good 10-15 feet of distance, of course the further out you point it the more dim it will be. This light is a great light for commuting and riding on the road although I would not suggest it for trails where it is typically much darker and much more hazardous.
I currently ride with a 1 LED light which is mostly so others can see more than so I can see the road however my old light was a 3 LED and it was a excellent at providing vision especially when I kept the angle closer to my front wheel.
The design of the housing is also supposed to focus the light so it is more powerful than a typical 3 LED light which is pretty cool.

Do the front + back lights both have mounted bases w/ quick release buttons?

They both have mounts with quick release buttons. The mount on the front is adjustable to fit many different types of bars while the rear light features multiple ways to mount and display the light whether on the seatpost, reflector/rear rack bracket, or simply clipping the light to a bag or belt.
