Fuji Bikes Outland RC Mountain Bike (Cross Country)
Fuji integrates the latest carbon and aluminum technology that maximizes mechanical output while reducing weight of their builds. The Fuji Outland RC Cross Country Bike is constructed from Fuji A-6 Quaternary phase alloy which contains magnesium, silicon, copper and other elements that make it 35% stronger than typical aluminum used in bike builds. Durable and lightweight, Fuji uses a unique heating process to maintain incredible strength while tubing walls are thinner. Although slightly stiffer and meant for XC rides, the Rock Shox Reba Team Suspension Fork with 100mm travel and Motion Control and PopLoc remote doesn't mind a root or two for smooth traveling. For rear shocks, the Rock Shox Monarch 3.3 with Motion Control and 3-Position Switch Floodgate Rear Shock is the perfect lightweight choice for all mountain and cross country jobs.
The Outland RC is outfitted with Shimano components, including the Shimano Shadow XT Rear Derailleur with Shimano XT 9-speed shifters and Shimano XT front derailleur. Added into this outlandish mix is the Shimano XT Hydraulic Disc, 180/160mm Centerlock Rotor Brakes chosen for their incredible power, and the Shimano XT Tubeless Disc Wheelset.

Great Bike, Not So Genius Build

I'm 5'8", got this rig in medium, and I'm just barely tall enough for a decent fit. Seems like Fuji's might run big (frame says it's 19", isn't that pretty big for a medium?). I have it all set up now and have put about 100 miles on it, and it's a great bike. Lightweight, climbs wonderfully, responsive handling.
I had some serious issues with the "genius build" though:
-rear shock was installed upside down
-front brake was not aligned properly
-neither front nor rear shock had anywhere near enough PSI for a person ordering a 19" frame bike
-no sealant in the (tubeless) tires. this caused big issues when i was 20 miles out on a 40 mile point to point ride this past weekend.

I am 5' 8" tall. It is recommended that I purchase the medium however the top tube is quite long on this size...approximately 24". Normally I would have a bike with a top tube between 22.5" and 33.5". Would I be better off getting the small? Do the sizes run big for this bike? Thanks so much for you help.

I would recommend you get the Medium and if you find that the top tube is too long for you, which I doubt it will be, then you could pick up a short stem> I think if you got the small that the seat tube would be too small so you'd have trouble controlling the bike properly.
