A 29'er is a mountain bike that uses a 29" wheel rather than the more common 26" wheel. A 29'er will roll over obstacles easier due to the decrease in impact angle. They also have a larger contact patch that aids in climbing and cornering. Plus, the larger wheels raise the height of the bottom bracket, improving clearance. The large wheels have an overall increased wheel weight and rotating mass. The frame and fork of a 29'er are also larger and heavier than a 26'er. 29'ers also feel more sluggish in tight cornering situations.
