This is the center of the wheel of the bicycle. A hub has an internal axle that remains still while a set of bearings that roll around the hub axle as the wheel rolls. Hubs are made in a variety of spoke quantities, hub widths, flange sizes, and axle types. Some hubs require a proprietary spoke or rim. Hubs are also specific to mountain and road. Most mountain bike hubs offer disc brake compatibility.
