WikiNerdia is a resource offered by Giantnerd® in an effort to help build a community where everyone can share knowledge in an open and honest way about products, brands, and terminology. This is a call out to all nerds in the know; help out the less experienced adventurers, pass your knowledge on or it will be lost forever! Add to it and make edits as you see fit. As with everywhere else on Giantnerd®, your collaboration will shape the way members treat and view products, categories, and the outdoor lifestyle—it’s critical to making the Giantnerd® community the best shopping site on the social web!
A 29'er is a mountain bike that uses a 29" wheel rather than the more common 26" wheel. A 29'er will roll over obstacles easier due to the decrease in impact angle. They also have a larger contact patch that aids in climbing and cornering. Plus, the larger wheels raise the height of the bottom bracket, improving clearance. The large wheels have an overall increased wheel weight and rotating mass. The frame and fork of a 29'er are also larger and heavier than a 26'er.
