2010 Diamondback Mission 1 Mountain Bike
In 2007, when Diamondback launched their Mission series of all-mountain bikes, they wanted to "put the mountain back in the mountain bike". Of course, this was no small task and Diamondback needed to match their lofty dreams with true ingenuity. Fortunately for us, they were up to the task. What they came up with was the Knuckle Box bell-crank. Much like Dr. Emmett Brown’s Flux Capacitor, (which makes time-travel possible) Diamondback’s Knuckle Box encapsulates the entire rear-suspension and smoothes all six-inches of travel. This creates a much lower center-of-gravity and gives the Mission series its appeal. As the fan base can attest, the Knuckle Box is the true “heart” of the Mission.
Now, fast-forward three years. The Knuckle Box remains; though, like the rest of the bike, has evolved. The innovative steps taken three years ago have matured and solidified into an incredible machine. While its solid construction encourages novices, its revolutionary design comforts veterans.
The Mission 1 offers all of its elder brothers’ appeal but still maintains an ethical price tag. With optional components from Fox, Truvativ, SRAM, Sun, Hayes, Easton, and WTB, the Mission 1 beckons to anyone persuaded by fun.
